1. Conference Venue

The 8th International Conference 2023 takes place at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense.

SDU Odense is the university’s largest campus and at the same time the largest educational institution in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Located on the outskirts of Odense on Funen in the heart of Denmark, SDU is exceptionally well connected to numerous destinations worldwide by road, rail and international airports in Copenhagen, Billund and Hamburg.

SDU can also be easily accessed by public transportation from downtown Odense – either directly from Odense Station or from city hotels.

Attending ETNA Conference 2023

1. Conference Venue

The 8th International Conference 2023 takes place at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense. SDU Odense is the university’s largest campus and at the same time the largest educational institution in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Located on the outskirts of Odense on Funen in the heart of Denmark, SDU is exceptionally well connected to numerous destinations worldwide by road, rail and international airports in Copenhagen, Billund and Hamburg..

SDU can also be easily accessed by public transportation from downtown Odense – either directly from Odense Station or from city hotels.

2. Hotel Accommodation

We encourage you to book your accommodation early to ensure availability at a hotel within easy reach of the conference venue.

Hotels in the city centre are recommended. From here, you can easily get to both the conference venue and the various social events during the conference.

SDU Odense can normally be accessed from the city centre most easily by taking the tram. Unfortunately, it is currently out of service due to repair work.

However, Replacement Buses depart from Odense Station every 10th and 15th minute. Please refer to the detailed transportation instructions here

2. Hotel Accommodation

When travelling to Odense by air, the closest international airports are Copenhagen Airport (CPH), Billund Airport (BLL) and Hamburg Airport (HAM).

You can also fly into Denmark’s second-largest city Aarhus (AAR) from London, Manchester, Madrid, Rome, Berlin, Munich, Stockholm, Oslo and a long list of other cities.

Airlines such as DAT and Alsie Express provide domestic and international flight services to smaller airports such as Hans Christian Andersen Airport (HCA) in Odense.

Car rental services are available at all airports, and visitors to Denmark may be eligible for tax-free car hire.

DSB is the official Danish national rail operator. You can see train routes, find times and book train tickets on the DSB website or Rejseplanen.dk (the Journey Planner).

Odense has one main train station: Odense Station (also called “Odense Banegård Center – OBC”), which has connections to Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Flensburg (Germany).

Trains depart from Copenhagen Airport (CPH) more or less hourly. Some go directly to Odense, others go to Copenhagen Central Station (København H), where it is necessary to change in order to go to Odense.

Tickets must be bought before boarding the train.

Booking in advance, up to two months before travel, is advised – check the section DSB Orange’ for the best value off-peak tickets on the train operator’s website or contact DSB Customer Service.

There are also ticket offices/vending machines at the airport and at train stations.

Bringing your car to Denmark

Highway E20 connects Europe with Odense and bringing your car to Denmark is no problem at all, as long as it is properly registered in your home country and has a national licence plate.

You must also have a valid national driving licence (in roman type) or an international driving licence with you at all times when you drive. 

Foreign vehicles must have valid insurance. The Danish Association of International Motor Vehicle Insurance gives guidance on insurance requirements for cars registered in different parts of the world.

Parking at SDU Odense

Parking is free at the parking areas of SDU Odense with few exceptions. See the local signposting. Please note, that you can not drive to the main entrance, which is only accessible to pedestrians, tramway passengers and cyclists.

If you arrive at SDU Campusvej by car, we strongly advise you to use the parking spaces at Fioniavej (P West) instead of parking at the Swimming Pool/Cortex Park (P East). The ongoing building of the tramway and several new structures at SDU Odense highly affects the traffic in the area and increase the risk of traffic congestion.

Directions to Fionavej (P West): From the motorway, E20, take Exit 50 “Odense SØ” and continue on “Munkebjergvej”. Then take a turn towards “Fioniavej”, where you will find the parking area.

Parkering Odense Syd/Park & Ride – Odense Letbane

Another free and easily accessible parking option is the Parkering Odense/Park & Ride facility just off the motorway E20 – at Exit 50. Just follow the signs.

There are 800 free parking lots and the tram station: “Parkering Odense Syd” is right next to the parking area. The tram ride to SDU takes app. 7 minutes and to the city centre app. 20 minutes.

You can park your car overnight at the facility, but you are not allowed to sleep there e.g. in your camper or truck.

Please note, that tickets for the tram cannot be bought on the tram or on the stations. Read more about tickets and prices here.

Bus connections to are operated by different providers including Eurolines Germany and FlixBus with routes between Danish towns and cities as well as multiple cities in Europe.

FlixBus have their Odense stop at Parkering Odense Syd/Park & Ride. So if you arrive at Odense by bus, you can easily access SDU Odense or Odense city centre by tram.

Please note, that tickets for the tram cannot be bought on the train or on the stations. Read more about tickets and prices here.

1. Odense Letbane (the tram) is out of service – use Replacement Buses

If you are travelling directly to SDU from Odense Station or downtown Odense, we recommend taking the Replacement Buses toward “Hjallelse Station”. The buses depart from Odense Station every 10th and 15th minute. The approximate travel time is 20-25 min. Get off at the stop: “Campus Odense”. Please refer to the detailed transportation instructions and directions to the main entrance of SDU Odense here.

From the main entrance walk up the stairs, and you will arrive at Campustorvet. Auditorium O100 is only a short distance from here.

Bus lines 41-44 run between Odense Station and SDU Odense. If you have taken the train to Odense, you can use your train ticket as bus fare. The price for the most common single journey by bus in Odense is DKK 24. You can find more information about buses here.
